Response to 84-07-23-13 Date: July 26, 1984 Control No: 84-07-26-10 In response to your July 21, 7.984 Memo, I have gathered the following facts for each topic listed below.

Welding / Configuration Since 6-7-84 this area e::perienced a high influx of ICR/NCR Close Outs followed by a unusually high number of Hanger Installa-tions as seen on the 28th of June. Bis caused manpower to bounce back and forth from current to backlog inspections. Finally the 6th manpower change on 7-6-84 left me with 3 to 4 Inspectors out of an original 9. Also special projects were once again being tossed into current responsibilities.

f Unstable manpower allocation due to erratic numbers and types of inspection requests was the root cause for a climbing backlog in these area's.

RWR's mis area didn't go sour smtil D. Coss's certificatiens lapsed and were finally noticed. Since then D. Schirmer has reajusted his manpower to work off this backlog.

Conduit Believe it or not this area has always been current. Se large number of incompleta inspections was researched by S. Dooley (7-25-84) and found all but 5 conduits had been completed.

A meeting with L. Seese, M. Iachner and myself was held on 7-24-84 concerning the Conduit Status. Apparently the Daily Status submitted by D. Soberski either did not reflect or was not interpreted properly to substantiate the coupleted inspections. Now all paperwork is being handed in the the Daily Status,

RafaYour-84-07-23-15 Boot causes of backlog slowdown are as follows:

c Welding - Progressing satisfactorily. Original count of backlog reduced to less than 100, consists primarily of items needing paint removed, scaffolding, etc.

Configuration - Of nine inspectors in the backlog section, one is assigned to the 451 project, three are in training, one on medical disability, one had certs expire, one on (2) two week vacation and two are working in the field. mis section will be moving slowly until more people can be used for actual inspection.

Junction Box & Equipment Progress appears satisfactory - well ahead of schedule .

Cable Pan Walkdown - Progressing more slowly than expected. Bis section came under my control 7/23/84. Will status prior to next staff meeting.

While previously estimated completion dates may be inpacted on some items listed above only the confir, ration completion will be ispacted to any major degree.

mis completion date for configurations was based on certifying additional people.

Since additional people were not certified the data is no longer valid._ he currant coupletion date is also based on seven (7) configuration inspectors performing inspections in the field, this is not happening at present.
