HOUSE OF REPR E SENT Al!\ LE July 16, 1984 Ms. Jona Souder Chief of Local Public Document Room U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 7735 Old Georgetown Road Bethesda, Maryland 20014

Dear Ms. Souder:

I have been advised that Topeka, Kansas area legislators along with Congressman, Jim Slattery, are attenpting to transfer public documents relating to the construction of the Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant to Washburn University library in Topeka from their present location here at the Emporia State University library.

I do not know the motives for the Topeka group's petition, but I feel I should express my opposition to the transfer as it could prove to be a loss to the state library here.

Today the value of the documents held for public inspection is questionable, but their worth could materialize in the future.

I feel the transfer of the documents would not be in the public's interest. The state library here is readily accessible to the public and is nearer to the power plant itself. If future research should be undertaken, having the documents available at the state university library could prove to be important and beneficial to those involved.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Sincerely yours, I. -~~,,
