Dear Mr. Keppler:

l Commonwealth Edison filed a 30 day report to your office by Reference (a) concerning the status of the problems we experienced with the Riley temperature switches installed in the leak detection system at LaSalle.

In that report it was indicated that the calibration procedure for these devices would be modified to solve the temperature off-set p;oblem. This effort has been completed and presently the switch units have been recalibrated utilizing the revised procedure and are accurately indicating the proper temperature.

At the time of the 30 day report, we anticipated final resolution of the temperature module problem (hardware modification) by the end of April. Presently, General Electric and Riley are still in the process of finalizing the solution. Meetings are planned in San Jose the week of May 2nd to accomplish this task. Final resolution is currently expected by 6/1/83. A final report will be 1ssued at that time.

If you or your staff have any questions concerning this activity, please contact this office.

Very truly yours, N u" .s j y} o, j i C. W. Schroeder Nuclear Licensing Administrator RAB/CWS/bmb/lm cc: Director of Inspection and Enforcement, Washington, D.C.
