Dear Mr. Keppler:
Commonwealth Edison notified your office on August 5, 1983 of a reportable deficiency in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e) concerning potentially defective HMA relays manufactured in 1974 by General Electric.

Safety related HMA relays with the date codes in question
-have been inspected for LSCS Unit 2.
Within the group of approximately 135 relays 2 (two) were found to have insufficient armature clearance and have been adjusted.
To assure that all desired relays have been inspected we are presently verifying the completeness of our HMA list.
Final resolution of the HMA relay problem is expected after September 23, 1983.
At that time a final report will be issued.
