Special Report on Fire Rated Assemblies LaSalle County Station, Units 1 and 2 Facility Operating Licenses NPF-11 and NPF-18 NRC Docket Nos. 50-373 and 50-374 This Special Report is submitted in accordance with LaSalle County Station Unit 1 and 2 Operating Licenses NPF 11 and NPF-18 respectively, Appendix A, and Technical Specifications 3.7.6 and 6.6.C.

Technical Specification 3.7.6 requires all fire rated assemblies, including walls, floor / ceilings, cable tray enclosures and otner fire carriers separating safety-related fire areas or separating portions of redundant systems important to safe shutdown within a fire area, and all sealing devices in the fire rated assembly penetrations (fire doors, fire windows, fire dampers, cable and piping penetration seals and ventilation seals) shall be OPERABLE at all times, and requires the restoration of the assembly to an OPERABLE status within seven days of being declared inoperable.

l During the period 6,' June 14,1998, through June 17,1998, various fire d rated assemblies were inoperable for a period greater than seven days. The fire rated assemblies were declared inoperable to allow test eqdpment to be routed through various fire doors and also to block open fire dampers for testing on the Control Room (VC) and Auxiliary Electric Equipment Room 2}

(VE) ventilation systems. Modifications to the ventilation systems were necessary to retum the cystems to an operable condition in support of restart. The fire rated assemblies are located in the Auxiliary Building at l elevations 710',731',749', c:id 768'.

. Fire watches were established in accordance with Technical Specification Action Statement 3.7.6.a to inspect the affected areas while the fi;e rated assemblies were inoperable. The fire watches minimized the possibility of a single fire involving more than one fire area prior to detection and extinguishment. The subject fire rated assemblies were retumed to an operable status on June 19,1998.
