Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station - Unit 2 & 3 Special Report - Both Diesel Driven and Motor Driven Fire Pumps Out Of Service Simultaneously

REFERENCE:

Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Technical Specification (Tech Spec) 3.14.A.3.b Descriotion of Occurrence On 3/2/93 at 1450 hours0.0168 days <br />0.403 hours <br />0.0024 weeks <br />5.51725e-4 months <br />, the Motor Driven Fire Pump (MDFP) was administratively declared inoperable due to the lack of water leakage through the pump packing. The leakage is needed for seal cooling purposes. On 03/03/93 at 0445 hours0.00515 days <br />0.124 hours <br />7.357804e-4 weeks <br />1.693225e-4 months <br />, during operation of the Diesel Driven Fire Pump (DDFP), the diesel engine temperature increased and began to overheat. The diesei was immediately shutdown. Therefore, both the DDFP and the MDFP were inoperable simultaneously.

Actions Taken A backup water supply was established to satisfy the requirements specified in Tech Spec 3.14.A.3.a. A water tanker truck was obtained to provide a backup water supply for the fire distribution system.

Actions Taken to Restore Eauioment to Ooerable Status The DDFP overheating condition was investigated and determined to be a problem with the cooling water pressure control valvo controller. The controller was repaired. In addition, the MDFP packing was replaced on 03/03/93. Following satisfactory post ,

maintenance testing, the DDFP was returned to service on 03/09/93 at 1550 hours0.0179 days <br />0.431 hours <br />0.00256 weeks <br />5.89775e-4 months <br /> and i the MDFP was returned to service on 03/03/93 at 1720 hours0.0199 days <br />0.478 hours <br />0.00284 weeks <br />6.5446e-4 months <br />.
