SUBJECT:
Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station - Units 2 & 3 REPORTABLE OCCURRENCE - Diesel Driven Fire Pump Out of Service
REFERENCE:
Technical Specification 3.14.A.2
Dear Sir:
This special report, involving the inoperability of the diesel driven fire pump, is being submitted pursuant to the referenced Technical Specification.
Identification of Occurrence On January 7, 1991 at 5:45 pm with Unit 2 and 3 operating at 100% power, the diesel driven fire pump was out of service in excess of seven days. This condition is reportable pursuant to the referenced Technical Specification.
Cause of Occurrence The pump was rendered inoperable on December 31, 1990 at 5:45 pm during performance of the monthly functional test. The voltage regulator for the diesel-mounted generator failed, allowing the generator to produce a higher than rated voltage. This higher voltage burned-out three control relays in the controller. These relays signal to the controller logic that the engine has started.
