DOCKET NO: 50-369 UNIT: McGuire Unit 1 DATE: 2-15-82 NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

MONTH: January, 1982 McGuire 1 returned to service on January 2 and increased to 75% power.

A switchgear problem resulted in the loss of the unit on January 3.

It was returned to service the following day and increased in power to 90% for testing.

On January 5, a procedure deficiency caused a reactor trip during a periodic test. The unit was returned to 90% power the same day and testing continued. Following completion of testing at 90%, power was reduced to 75% on January 7, to await confirmation of a procedure change before escalating to 100% power.

Another trip of the unit occured on January 9 while maintenance was in progress on the turbine control (DEH) system. It was returned to 75%

power on January 10. Freezing instrumentation lines resulted '.n a recator trip on January 11. It was returned to service the same day.

The reactor was increased to 100% power on January 13, for a twenty four (24) hour period. Power was then reduced to 50% until an outage for further inspection and analysis of the steam generator condition.

By procedural instructions, the reactor was manually tripped on January 15, due to an indicated high vibration on one of the reactor coolant pumps.

The indication was false and the unit was returned to the 50% power level within a few hours.

Increased to 75% power on January 18, to meet system demand. After peak the unit was reduced to 50% power and continued at this level the remainder of the month.
