Mr. Josep'1 M. Hendrie, Chai rman ~;i-United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1717 H Street, N.W.

Washington, D. C. 20555

Dear Mr. Hendrie:

We are concerned about the recent decision of the Nuclear Regulatory ConTaission to delay the licensing of Virginia Electric and Power Company's North Anna II nuclear power unit. The delay in the licensing of this unit will continue to impose economic hardships on the many people in northeastern North Carolina who purchase power from Virginia Electric and Power Company.

We find it extremely difficult to understand why the North Anna II unit cannot be licensed. The North Anna I unit, which is located at the same site as the North Anna II unit, has already successfully operated for a year. If there are facts that would show that a nuclear unit should not, be located at this site, we would certainly like to be made aware of those facts.

The people in northeastern North Carolina who get their power from Virginia Electric and Power Company are suffe. ring because this and other VEPCO nuclear plants are not being operated. The fuel charges added to our bills monthly place an intolerable burden on our people.

We respectfull-y request immediate reconsideration by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of its decision to delay the licensing of the North Anna II unit.

Sincerely yours,j 2# 1es-N. Anna David R. Taylor Town Panager DRT:gk cc: J. H. McBrayer Qt District Manager, VEPC0 }b33 33[ w Ralph W. Shaw gi Exec Dir, Electricities of N.C. ,
