Dear Chairman Hendrie:
I am writing on behalf of the consumers of Tri-County Electric Cocperative, Leesburg, Virginia, as the President of that Board, to request that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission re-examine the decision to impose a moratorium on licensing new nuclear units, specifically- North Anna II. Our members are presently paying the highest rates in the State of Virginia, because Tri-County must purchase all of its wholesale power frem The Virginia Electric 5 Power Company.
In light of the President's ban of Iranian oil, NRC's moratorium on North Anna II, and the high cost cf coal, due to the clean air regulations, our cost of wholesale power will pose a serious hardship on our members who can ill afford additional increases in their electric bills.
North Anna I has been operating more successfully than any other un.it in the County, and has had no significant occurrences, that in any way posed a safety hazard to either the employees of the plant or the imediate area.
Since North Anna II is identical to North Anna I, I can see no logical reason to delay it's operation.
Your personal attention to this request will be greatly appreciated.
