Gentlemen:

We have completed our review of the safety-related piping for Arkansas Nuclear One - Units 1 and 2 (ANO-1 & 2) to detemine the extent of use of Youngstown longitudinal welded pipe. The attached report will complete our response to requested action Itens 1 & 2 of the subject bulletin.

In response to requested action Item 3, development of a program for volumetric examination of the longitudinal welds and acceptance criteria has begun. However, due to the extent of the requested exam and the potential impact of the choice of the acceptance criteria, we will not be able to submit a fully developed program until June 22, 1979. Development of the program and accessibility of the piping will determine the completion date for the program. We will also supply this intended completion date when we submit the examination program.

1. Summary During the period April 17, 1979 through April 23,1979 c systematic search wa c. ie of the piping documentation of '

Arkansas Nuclear One, L. sit I and 2. This scarch was initi-ated at the request of Arkansas Power 5 Light Co. for the purpose of satisfying steps 1 and 2 of NRC Bulletin IE 79-03.

The procedure used for the search is diagrammed in Section 2.

The results as summari:ed below are listed in detail in Sections 3 and 4 Initially the search covered all sizes of stainless steel pipe. The site was eventually licited to 6" and larger with approval from the resident NRC representative at the j obsite. This was based upon affirmation by the NRC that Youngstown Welding 5 Engineering had not produced any seam-welded ASTM A-312 or ASME SA-312 Type 304 stainless steel pipe less than 6" diameter.

Unit 1 Piping Decay Heat Removal System 166.68 ft.

Reactor Bldg. Spray System 513.75 ft.

Reactor Coolant System 13.0 ft.

Total 693.43 ft.

Pine Sucoorts None Unit 2 Piping Containment Spray System 3.36 ft.

Sace.y Injection System 69.5 ft.

Total 72.86 ft.
