Nuclear Divison October 20, 1980 Mr. James G. Keppler, Director Docket Mos.: STN 50-546 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission STN 50-547 Region III Construction Permit Nos.:

799 Roosevelt Road CPPR - 170 Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137 CPPR - 171 Marble Hill Nuclear Generating Station - Units 1 and 2 Dear Mr. Keppler On July 17, 1980, Mr. T. D. Geib of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc., (PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55 (e) . The support steel supplier for the Nuclear Steam Supply System, Lakeside Bridge and Steel Company, notified PSI that certain radiographs of the steam generator upper lateral support embedments did not meet the density requirements of Section V of the ASME B&PV Code. 7n an interim report dated, August 13, 1990, PSI stated that these embedments would be reradiographed and the results of this examination would be submitted as part of a final report on or before October 20, 1980. The majority of this reradiography is complete and the results received to date are satisfactory. However, subsequent to the filing of the interim report, Lakeside Bridge and Steel identified several additional embedments and pipe restraints which also did not have acceptable radiographs. PSI considers these newly identified items within the scope of the existing concern. As a result, it will be necessary for PSI to return these components for reexamination prior to completion of a final report. The results of all these reexaminations will be discussed in a final report on or before December 15, 1980.

If you have any questions on this matter, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

  1. F,- _
