Mr. James G. Keppler, Director Directorate of Inscection and Enforcement - Region III U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 Subj e ct : LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 Electrical Termination Lug Design Final Report - 10 CFR 50.55(e)

NRC Docket Nos. 50-373/374 References (1): J. G. Keppler letter to C. Reed dated January 9, 1981 (2): J. S. Abel letter to J. G. Keppler dated December 15, 1961

Dear Mr. Keppler:

In order to comply with the directive of your of fice relative to the reporting of corrected termination lug deficiencies dhk[

at LaSalle County, Commonwealth Edison submits this report to satisfy the procedural requirements of 10 CFR 50.55(e). Although our position relative the reportabi.11ty of this matter under 10 CFR 50.55(e) remains the same as was stated in Reference (2), this transmittal is made to document the fact that a deficiency relative to termination lugs was identified and the corrective action

implemented to resolve tnat deficiency has been completed.

As was discussed in Reference (2), the termination lug deficiency was identified by a site contractor (General Electric) on a control panel (H13-P603) supplied by that cont r a cto r . The deficiency involved the use of ring lugs specified for use with #10 l or #12 wire for terminations of #14 and 018 wire. Although the site l record does not indicate whether the actual terminations were deficient, i.e. did not provide acceptable termination conta ct s , it

is clear that corrective action was taken to inspect all the involved control room panels for similar problems and to repl,s ce all improper lugs. This inspection and replacement program has been completed. The conduct of this remedial work was compatible with the priority classification assigned based on the original review of the dif ficiency by the site contractor.
