SUMMARY

OF AUGUST 29,2012, PRE-APPLICATION MEETING WITH UNION ELECTRIC COMPANY TO ADD A NEW TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR THE CLASS 1E ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM (TAC NO. ME9233)

On August 29,2012, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Union Electric Company (the licensee) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the licensee's planned submittal of an amendment request for Callaway Plant, Unit 1, for a new Technical Specification (TS) to provide operability and surveillance requirements for the Class 1E electrical equipment air conditioning system.

The meeting notice and agenda are located in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML12227A347.

The licensee presented information on the background and content of the proposed request (ADAMS Accession No. ML12241A292). The licensee described its proposed TS for the Class 1E electrical equipment air conditioning system.

The NRC staff queried the licensee about several aspects of the proposed changes and provided comments for consideration by the licensee in developing its submittal. The licensee's staff acknowledged the NRC staff's questions and comments and stated that they would be considered as the licensee continues to prepare its submittal. Several representatives from other utilities were in attendance or participated by telephone. Industry and NRC staff participating in the meeting recognized the challenges raised by the underlying issues that the new TSs propose to address, but acknowledged that a generic solution has not yet been determined. No regulatory decisions were made at the meeting.
