DOW CHEMICAL U.S.A.
"*'**""^N
- June 23, 1977 US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region III 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137 Gentlemen:
A radioactive source containing 200 millicuries of cesium-137 was recovered from Dow's brine well #33 on June 21, 1977.
The letter of April 19, 1977, describes the incident re-sulting in the lost source. Employee radiation exposure received during recovery was minimal. A radiation survey of the logging tool and immediate vicinity of the well in-dicated no leakage of the radioactive cesium from the source capsule. The cesium source was removed from the Midland location by Birdwell personnel on June 23, 1977. Information concerning source recovery may be obtained from B. R. Thomas, 517/636-2999.
