Dear Mr. DeYoung:

Thank you for your letter dated January 26, 1983, which provided preliminary information concerning quality assurance breakdowns at two nuclear material suppliers. I have forwarded the information to the appropriate River Bend nuclear personnel, and they are taking immediate action to determine if the subject material suppliers sup-plied material to the River Bend Site.

Our Quality Assurance Department became aware of possi-ble fraudulent practices by Ray Miller, Inc. on December 6, 1982. Based on this information, our site constructor, Stone & Webster, reviewed purchasing records to determine if this supplier had been.ussd. This investigation revealed that they were not a source of supply. Based on the additional information you have provided, we will recon-firm that Ray Miller, Inc. has not been used as a supplier for the River Bend Site, and will check documentation of our suppliers of this type of material to determine if they utilized Ray Miller, Inc. as a subsupplier. Should we determine that material from Ray Miller, Inc. has been used at our site, the necessary corrective action will be taken.

I appreciate the opportunity to demonstrate our dedica-tion to the quality and safety of River Bend. We are expe-ditiously pursuing a resolution to the situations you have brought to my attention, and will provide the results and any other information concerning our review, to the NRC when requested. ,

Sincerely, cc W. J. Cahill, Jr. \d
