Dear Mr. Keppler:

Cn September 25, 1980, Mr. S. J. Brewer of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc., (PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). During maintenance of storage conditions on cable tray hangers, deficiencies were identified in a number of their welds. A nonconformance report wac issued by the contractor who identified the deficiencies and was submitted to PSI for evaluation and disposition.

PSI has performed an evaluation of those deficiencies which included a reinspection of the cable tray hangers in question. Mest of the wolds in questien proved to be acceptable and only a small number will require rework. However, since the preliminary telephone notification, additional weld deficiencias have been identified and these will rsquire additional time for evaluation.

This letter is intended to fulfill the requirements of an interim report as defined by 10 CFR 50.55(e). A final report will be submitted on or before December 5, 1980. If you have any questions pisase feel free to contact me.
