PURPOSE: To discuss potential issues related to a disposal of reactor vessel and decommissioning plans for the Fermi-1 reactor.

BACKGROUND:

The Fermi-1 reactor is located at Lagoona Beach, Frenchtown Township, Michigan. The reactor was shutdown in 1972. DTE Energy has been stabilizing the facility by passivating residual sodium and disposing of plant components and systems. DTE Energy is currently planning to remove the reactor vessel in 2009, and terminate their license in 2012.
