OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALLS HELD ON APRIL 29 AND MAY 4, 2015, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND DTE ELECTRIC COMPANY, CONCERNING REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE FERMI 2 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO. MF4222)

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of DTE Electric Company (DTE or the applicant) held two telephone conference calls on April 29 and May 4, 2015, to discuss and clarify the applicants response to request for additional information (RAI) B.1.45-2, concerning the Fermi 2 license renewal application. The telephone conference calls was useful in clarifying the applicants response to the staffs RAI. provides a listing of the participants and Enclosure 2 contains a brief description on the status of the items.

The applicant had an opportunity to comment on this summary.

SUMMARY

OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALLS FERMI 2 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION APRIL 29 AND MAY 4, 2015 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of DTE Electric Company (DTE or the applicant) held two telephone conference calls on April 29 and May 4, 2015, to discuss and clarify the response to request for additional information (RAI)

B.1.45-2 concerning the Fermi 2 license renewal application (LRA).

RAI B.1.45-2

Background:

In the letter dated April 27, 2015, the applicant provided its response to RAI B.1.45-2. The staff requested clarification on the applicants response.

Discussion:

The staff indicated that the response to RAI B.1.45-2 requires clarification. Specifically, the staff asked for clarification on the applicants response to Part a of RAI B.1.45-2 regarding the performance of adhesion testing when peeling, delamination, or blistering is found.

In addition, the staff requested clarification regarding a change in the scope of the Coatings Integrity Program included in the letter dated April 27, 2015. Specifically, the staff asked for clarification on how loss of piping base material for the mechanical draft cooling tower (MDCT) spray header assemblies will be addressed (i.e., how failure of the pressure boundary due to localized loss of galvanized coating will be addressed).

The applicant provided clarification and stated that it will revise its response to RAI B.1.45-2 and that it will provide additional clarification regarding how loss of piping base material for the MDCT spray header assemblies will be addressed.
