UNIT 2 RESTART i
On August 13. 1997, the Point Beach Unit 2 reactor was restarted and on {
August 16. 1997, the unit began generating electricity at 10:18 p.m. j (CDT) ending a ten-month outage which began on October 5. 1996.
During the outage, major projects and improvement initiatives were completed. These included re condenser steam dump valves, placingextensive performing the unit's repairs steam on generators and the service water and component cooling water pumps, and refueling the reactor. The licensee also completed reviews of many plant systems, programs and procedures to address a number of NRC and licensee identified performance issues.
NRC Region 111 (Chicago) staff and resident inspectors provided 24-hour inspection coverage during the restart process. Currently. NRC staff has continued its 24-hour expanded ins)ection coverage to include monitoring of the plantes control room and ot1er major plant restart activities.
The licensee issued a news release on the plant's restart. There has been local news media interest. '
The State of Wisconsin will be notified.
