STEAM GENERATOR TUBE LEAK 1

The licensee reported that they had shutdown Point Beach Unit 1 due to indication of primary to secondary leakage in the "A" steam generator.

The leakage has been increasing since May 24 when it was 7 gallons per day (gpd) to 23 gpd on May 25 and to about 180 gpd when the unit was shutdown. The Technical Specification limit is 500 gpd.

The unit was shutdown today (May 26,1978) at about 6:00 a.m. to locate f I

and correct the leakage. The licensee expects the outage "to last '

approximately 5 days. y This same unit was shutdown on February 2,1978 because of primary to

secondary leakage also in the "A" Steam Generator. (Reference PN-78-20).

l The licensee has made a press release. The region does not plan to issue a press release at this time.

The State of Wisconsin has been notified.

Region III (Chicago) received notification of this matter by telephone from the licensee at 8:15 a.m., on May 26, 1978.
