STEAM GENERATOR TUBE LEAK '

The Region III (Chicago) inspector, who is at the site conducting a routine inspection, reported that Point Beach I has indications of primary to secondary leakage in the "A" steam generator. The leak rate has been increasing since January 30, 1978, and is now up to 130 gallons per day (gpd). The Technical Specifications limit is 500 gpd.

The licensee plans to shut Unit I down today (February 2, 1978) to locate and correct the leakage. They expect the outage to last approximately 5 days. .

The Region does not plan to issue a press release at this time. The
