Subject:

STEAM GENERATOR TUBE LEAK The licensee reported that Unit 1 was shutdown this morning due to a primary to secondary leak in the "A" steam generator. The leak-age increased from 116 gallons per day at 3:15 a.m. to 560 gallons per day at 5:00 a.m. on September 20, 1978. The Technical Specification l requires the plant to be placed in cold shutdown within 30 hours3.472222e-4 days <br />0.00833 hours <br />4.960317e-5 weeks <br />1.1415e-5 months <br /> if l the leakage exceeds 500 gallons per day.

September 29, 1978. With the shutdown due to the steam generator leakage, the licensee plans to start his refueling outage imediately.

l The licensee expects the outage to last until October 24, 1978.  ;

The same unit was shutdown previously on February 2,1978 and May 26, l l 1978 because of primary to secondary leakage also in the "A" steam -

The licensee has made a press release. Region III does not plan to issue a press release at this time. The State of Wisconsin has been notified. Region III (Chicago) received notification of this matter i

by telephone from the licensee at 10:15 a.m., on September 20, 1978.
