UNIT 1 RESTART On November 29, 1997, the Point Beach Unit 1 reactor was restarted. It was shut down on February 18, 1997, to repair a component cooling water '

pump and a service water pump. The Unit 1 outage was extended by the licensee's decision to focus efforts on addressing performance issues and i completing maintenance and modification activities associated with Unit  !

2, which returned to service in August, 1997. As a result of the extended )

outage, other work on Unit 1 was also done, including performing modifications to the auxiliary feedwater system and replacing the low ]

pressure turbines.

Unit 1 is scheduled to remain online until a routine refueling outage planned for early 1998.

Unit 2 was shut down November 15, 1997, for reactor protection system testing. Necessary modifications to the auxiliary feedwater system are i currently underway to support dual unit operations. These modifications l were already made on Unit 1.

NRC Region III (Chicago) residen inspectors monitored the restart activities in the control room.

The State of Wisconsin will be notified.
