February 10, 1978 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-78-28 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSI3LE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Subject:
UNIT SHUTDOWN - STATION MAIN TRANSFORMER FAULT The licensee reported that at 5:21 p.m., on February 9,1978, the main station transformer experienced a fault on the "B" phase. The fault resulted in a generator-turbine-reactor trip.
Cleanup and changeout of the "B" phase of the main transformer is in progress. A spare phase is onsite.
The changeout is expected to keep the generator off the line for 4 days.
The reactor is in hot shutdown.
The licensee plans to issue a press release.
