MEDIA INTEREST IN HYDROGEN STORAGE TUBE LEAK Florida Power & Light (FPL) declared an unusual event at 8:50 p.m. (EDT) on Saturday, September 20, because of a leaking relief valve on one of the storage tubes on a hydrogen trailer. Af ter the other tubes were isolated from the leak, it took about an hour for hydrogen to bleed out of the affected storage tube. The area was roped off and smoking was prohibited. A brisk breeze helped disperse the leaking gas.
The unusual event was terminated at 12:14 a.m. on September 21.
FPL responded to inquiries from three newspapers in the plant area which apparently learned of the event from monitoring police radio channels.
The State'of Florida has been informed.
