ACTIONS IN RESPONSE TO HURRICANE KATE - UPDATE This PN updates PN0-II-85-110, issued on November 19.

Hurricane Kate was downgraded to a tropical storm at 5 a.m. (EST) today by the National W:ather Service.

After passing through Cuba and the Florida keys, and moving west and north across the Gulf of Mexico, the storm moved ashore about 5 p.m. yesterday approximately 35 miles west of Panama City, Florida. Since that time, it has moved east northeastward across the Florida Panhandle and southern Georgia. It was dcwngraded from hurricane status as storm winds had d: creased to 55 miles an hour. The storm, located near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, at 2 p.m. today, is expected to continue moving along or near the coastline this afternoon and then to move easterly over the Atlantic Ocean.

Region II monitored the storm's progress during the past few days. No adverse effects have occurred to NRC-licensed facilities along the path of the storm.

Region II plans no further activities fr. regard to this storm.
