- fuly 16, II76 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE-PNO-76-122 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

SHUTDOWN TO INVESTIGATE FLUX TILT Power ascension testing at the 50% power level on 7/10/76 was interrupted to ivestigate a radial flux of about 4%.
Two situations have been postulated, one involves selective crud deposition or removal and hence boron hideout in the core and the other involves nonuniform burnup of burnable poisons.
Initial criticality was achieved on 4/22/76 and the core has 25 effective full power days operation. Highest power level attained was 80%.
Duration of the shutdown is expected to exceed 10 days to reperform zero power testing.
FPL plans to issue a press release the afternoon of 7/16/76.
j OIE received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the Plant Superintendent on 7/10/76, with an update on July 15 & 16, 1976.
