PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION ff

[ July 7, 1978 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT - PNS-78-31 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE national security or publi; interest significance. The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

FACILITY: St. Lucie, Unit No. 1 Florida Power and Light Company Docket No. 50-335 Hutchinson Island, Florida SUBJECT B0MB THREAT A bomb threat was telephoned to the St. Lucie Unit No. I guard house at 9:10 AM July 7. The plant, located seven miles southeast of Ft. Pierce, Florida, is operating at 100 percent rated power. The male caller said " Watch out for the bomb" and hung up. A search was initiated by the licensee. The plant site was not evacuated. The FBI and the sheriffs of St. Lucie and Martin counties were notified by the licensee.

There has been no media interest. Neither the licensee nor the NRC plans a Press Release. The State of Florida has been informed.

Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this event by telephone from the Site Technical Supervisor at 9:50 AM on July 7.
