Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 Containment Penetration Overcurrent Protective Devices

Dear Sir:

4 i

This letter is in response to the request for additional information contained in the May 22, 1987 letter from Dr. K. Jabbour, NRC/NRR. j i

In response to question I., no new penetrations were added es a result of this change. Four new overcurrent protective devices (two outlets per unit) were added {

to accommodate Decontamination Pressure Washers and welding machines. The pressure l' washers are to be used for decontamination purposes during outage periods. The machines will save person-hours and exposure during the decontamination process of lower containment areas and the refueling cavity. The 50.59 review also concluded that this modification did not involve an unreviewed safety question since no safety systems would be degraded and no functional changes would be made to any system.

I The overcurrent protective devices are similar in all respects to other devices of the same class already installed at Catawba.

In response to question 2., the applicable Penetration Type / Voltage Class as identified in FSAR Table Q430.11-1 are Type F/ Low Voltage. Figure Q430.11-6 is the applicable figure for these devices.

Please advise if any further information is required.

Very truly yours, FL Hal B. Tucker RWO/83/sbn 8707080621 870701 o/
