Catawba Nuclear Station Revision to Response to NRC Violation 50-413/90-09-01 Gentlemen My June 7, 1990 letter transmitted our response to the subject violation notice. This letter modifies Section 4.c of the subject response to read as follows:

provide a method to verify test inputs as they are injected. The procedure has been modified to verify the dummy input signal to each channel's RTD circuit, one at a time, by comparison betweer. the indicated OHM Value shown on the calibrated 0194taeter and the known variable test resistance value. The modified test procedure includes a method to remove RTD's from service one channel at a time. In addition Operations personnel will be notified that the channel which is removed from service for RTD cross calibration will be inoperable and Operations may not use that channel to monitor the Reactor Coolant Temperature.

This change will satisfy the intent of the original response to verify test-inputs as they are injected, and will cause the RTD to be out of service for a shorter period of time. This item has been completed.
