Walkdown Instruction 0 Revisim MECHANICAL DISCIPLINE WALKDOWN INSTRUCTION 1.0 PURPOSE This instruction specifies the approach and documentation to be used by the Mechanical Discipline when performing engineering walkdowns for the CPSES Design Adequacy Program.

2.0 SCOPE This instruction applies whenever an engineering walkdown is necessary to complete a checklist review under DSAP X. A walkdown that is used as a means of familiarization with the CPSES systems and its spatial arrangement are excluded frem this instructions scope. This instruction does not address the review of implementing and output documents using review topic checklists. The review of these documents is addressed in DAP S and -6.

3.0 DEFINITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 3.1 Definitions 3.1.1 Walkdown An engineering observation of hardware related data necessary to review and/or verify a checklist attribute at CPSES.

Mech. Discip. Walkdown Instruction Revision. 0 3.2.3 Walkdown Engineers The Walkdown Engineers are responsible for performing the engineering walkdowns in accordance with this instruction and the CPRT Program Plan.

The Walkdown Engineers are responsible for the performance of the walkdown, walkdown results, and walkdown results documentation.

4.0 INSTRUCTION 4.1 Walkdown Checklist Preparation 4.1.1 A walkdown checklist will be prepared to ensure a consistent and complete N review of design activities that are more appropriately verified by engineering walkdown. Walkdown checklists shall be prepared in accordance with the format of Attachment 1. The Discipline Coordinator may authorize alternatives to this format, however, this alternative format should contain comparable information.

4.1.2 The originating engineer shall complete the following steps to create a walkdown checklist.

o Enter the checklist number that the walkdown checklist supports.

o in a logical progression list the attributes to be observed during the walkdown.

o For each attribute listed describe the verification or information to be obtained for each observation.

Mech. Discip. Walkdown Instruction R,evision: 0 o Organize attributes and verifications in a manner to provide a field worksheet for the implementing walkdown engineer and to the extent possible minimizing additional information sheets.

o The originating engineer shall complete the title, page, date and revision information and submit the walkdown checklist to the discipline coordinator for approval prior to its use.

4.2 The discipline coordinator shall review the walkdown checklist for compliance to this instruction and shall verify that the walkdown checklist form is adequate for its intended purpose. On accepting the walkdown checklist, a checklist form number, revision number, and date shall be placed in the lower right hand corner of each page in accordance with item 5.1 of DAP-4. The approval by the Discipline Coordinator to use the walkdown checklists forms shall be in the form of a memo to appropriate personnel authorized to use the form. Supplemental attributes added to these forms in accordance with Section 4.3 shall not require discipline coordinator approval prior to completion of the checklist.

l 4.3 Use of Checklists 4.3.1 The review shall be conducted by at least two walkdown engineers using the approved walkdown checklist form developed in accordance with the instructions above. The walkdown engineers shall perform a walkdown inspection for all items on the walkdown checklist and shall record their observations in the comments column.

Mech. Discip. Walkdown Instruction Revision: 0 4.3.2 The walkdown engineers shall review each item on the checklist and indicate whether each item was found to be . satisfactory, unsatisfactory, not checked, or not applicable. "Not checked" or "NC" may be used when a standard walkdown checklist is used to perform a limited review of a given subject such that on applicable area was excluded from the review scope.

"Not applicable" or "NA" may be used when an item on a standard walkdown checklist form is not applicable to the subject being reviewed. Whenever "NC" or "NA" are used, an explanation shall be noted in the comments column.

4.3.3 Additional attributes may be added to the walkdown checklist by the walkdown engineers that they believe are necessary to ensure the adequacy n

of the walkdown verification effort. These additional walkdown checklist attributes may be added without prior Discipline Coordinator approval.

4.3.4 The walkdown engineers shall complete the date of walkdown, and each shall sign the checklist in the spaces provided upon completion of the walkdown effort.

4.4 Approval The completed review topic checklist and the associated walkdown checklist shall be submitted together for approval by the discipline coordinator. The discipline coordinator shall indicate approval of the walkdown checklists by signing the " Approved by" line of the walkdown checklists.
