Number: DAP DI-C/S-002

Title:

HOMOGENEOUS DESIGN Revision: 0 ACTIVITY REVIEW RECORD l.0 PURPOSE This discipline instruction provides the means to document for each review package the type I, type I/2 and type 2 HDA coverage. This instruction also provides on alternate way to fulfill the DAP-5 Section 4.3 requirement that "the Reviewer or Assigned Personnel shall indicate the homogeneous design activity number opplicable to each checklist item in the Comments column."

2.0 SCOPE This discipline instruction opplies to the civil / structural discipline self-initiated review.

Other civil / structural reviews, such as those performed under the external issue corrective action umbrello (e.g., cable tray supports and conduit supports) are not of fected by this instruction.

d(3 3.0 DEFINITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 3.1 Definitions 3.1.1 Homogeneous Design Activity A homogeneous design activity (HDA) is a collection of individual design tasks that are similar in the following attributes: 1) criteria; 2) design considerations, approach and methodology; 3) performing organization / discipline; 4) design con-trol process; and 5) design interfaces. The sum of homogeneous design activities is the overall AE safety-related design scope os represented by calculations, engineering evaluations, specifications, and design drawings which are the products of these activities.

A homogeneous design activity may also be described as a lowest common denominator task that does not include meaningful

ACTIVITY REVIEW RECORD differences in the attributes mentioned above (" meaningful" being applied to the manner in which an engineer would perform a design task).

3.1.2 Types of Homogeneous Design Activities Within the civil / structural discipline there are three types of HDAs:

type I, type 2 and type I/2. Type l HDAs have specific calculations associated with them and their population can be readily identified. The type lu HDA is o subcategory of type i HDAs that covers unique items (e.g., containment hatch, steam generator upper lateral restroint).

Some HDAs are documented within the body of many individual structural design calculations (e.g., dead and live load calculations do not generally exist as separate calculations, but are incorporated into calculation packages).

The presence of this type of HDA within a calculation cannot be determined without a review of the calculation itself. Such HDAs are labeled as type 2 HDAs.

Certain HDAs include attributes of both type I and type 2 HDAs. They cover particular issues which are generally associated with many specific calculations; however, of times they may be the subject of special studies or generic calculations. Such HDAs are labeled as type I/2.

A listing of tOA titles and HDA types for the civil / structural discipline is includedi A tt chment A.

3.l.3 Review Package l

l A review package consists of all documents reviewed under a single series of type C checklists (see DAP-4) or under on Engineering Evaluation (see DAP-8).

ACTIVITY REVIEW RECORD A review package may contain several similar calculations if all are reviewed using one set of type C checklists, or under the same Engineering Evaluation.

3.l.4 Calculation Review Coversheet This form identifies the reviewer, checker and the calculation (s) reviewed.

Comments by the reviewer and checker <.ce included on this form. The form shall be used to document the HDAs contained in the calculation in accordance with this Instruction.

3.1.5 Reviewer / Checker Refer to definitions in DAP-5.

3.2 Responsibilities 3.2.1 Discipline Coordinator The Discipline Coordinator or his designee ensures that the review coverage of the type I/2 and type 2 HDAs is adequate. He shall do so by compiling the full set of type 1/2 and type 2 HDAs, and documenting comprehensive coverage of each HDA.

3.2.2 Reviewer For each review package, the reviewer shall document the HDAs c.tained in the review package in accordance with this instruction.

HOMOGENEOUS DESIGN Revision: 0 ACTIVITY REVIEW RECORD The Checker is responsible for verifying the HDA documentation prepared by the reviewer.

4.0 INSTRUCTION

4.1 Background

The population of type I/2 and type 2 HDAs cannot be identified since they are included within the body of many calculations within a number of dif ferent topic Therefore, these HDAs are covered during the normo! review process os areas.

they are identified within the body of selected type l HDA calculations. The attributes listed in the type C checklist forms clearly denote the coverage of type I/2 and type 2 HDAs.

4.2 Identification Each reviewer shall identify the type I, type 1/2 and type 2 HDAs contained in each reviewed calculation package. When an HDA is internally subdivided, the appropriate subdivision shall be identified.

Each review package completed with type C checklists shall contain a Calculation Review Coversheet (Attachment B). For review packages completed with Type C checklists, the HDAs shall be identified on the Calculation Review Coversheet. The reviewer shall fill in three entries on the Calculation Review Cover Sheet:

HDA number:

This is the number of the HDA the calculation has been selected under.

HDAs reviewed in this Calculation Set: These are the numbers of the HDAs the reviewer has addressed through his review of the calculation.

ACTIVITY REVIEW RECORD HDAs addressed in this_Colculation Set, but not reviewed:

These are the numbers of HDAs the calculation addresses but were not reviewed by the reviewer.

The checker shall verify the occuracy of the HDA lists and resolve all comments or questions with the reviewer.

For calculation packages which are reviewed through an Engineering Evoluotion, all the HDAs addressed in the calculation shall be identified on the cover sheet of the Engineering Evaluation under the scope section (Refer to DAP-8). The originator shall list the HDAs in two groups:

(1) HDAs addressed in the Engineering Evaluation; (2) HDAs covered in the calculation set, but not addressed in the Engineering Evaluation. This requirement is additional to the instructions in DAP-8 pertinent to the preparation and format of the cover sheet (scope section) of an Engineering Evoluotion. The reviewer assigned to check the v'

Engineering Evoluotion shall verify the accuracy of the HDA lists and resolve all comments or questions with the originator.

4.3 Tracking The coverage of type I, l/2, and type 2 HDAs is documented on the Calculation l

l Review Coversheet or in the calculation Engineering Evoluotion. A final list of I

all type 1/2 and type 2 HDAs covered for all review packages shall be created by the Discipline Coordinator or his designee. The Discipline Coordinator or his designee shall review this listing to assure complete coverage of type I/2 and type 2 HDAs. The results of this review will be addressed in the Topical Engineering Evoluotions.

5.0 DOCUMENTATION Upon completion of a review package using Type C checklists, the reviewer and TN-86-7141 Page 5 of 6

checker shall sign the Calculation Review Cover Sheet (Attachment B) and submit the review package for approval to the Discipline Coordinator. Approval shall be documented on the cover sheet, in addition, o copy of all completed i

Calculation Review Coversheets shall be kept in a separate working file.

For review packages completed through Engineering Evoluotions, the documento-tion requirements in DAP-8 shall be followed.
