ACTIVITY VALIDATION r

1.0 PURPOSE This discipline instruction provides on alternative to the format of Attachment B ,

to D AP-2'.

I 2.0 SCOPE This discipline instruction applies to the civil / structural discipline. It applies only to the format of the documentation of:

I. The examination of documents scanned

2. The conclusion reached by the reviewer regarding the validity of the HDA.

This discipline instruction does not conflict with the intent of any of the requirements presented in DAP-21.

3.0 DEFINITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 3.1 Definitions Refer to DAP-21.

(- s ACTIVITY VALIDATION 4.0 INSTRUCTION The following instructions provide more specific guidance than DAP-21 and do not eliminate any of the requirements specified under DAP-21 except for section 4.1.3. Section 4.1.3 (Preparation of Checklists) of this discipline instruction provides an alternative to Section 4.1.3 of DAP-21.

4.1.3 Preparation of Checklists A reviewer shall complete a homogeneous design activity description and validation checklist (Attachment A) to document the examination of documents scanned and the conclusion reached by the reviewer regarding the validity of the HDA. The attributes related to organization / discipline, design control process and design interfaces will be reviewed and documented at the programmatic level.

LJ Attachment A of this discipline instruction shall be completed as follows:

Page I is unchanged (except for one additional entry) from page I of Attachment B to DAP-21 and should be completed accord-ingly.

The additional entry consists of the HDA type. Three types of HDA are defined, viz., type I, type 2, and type I/2.

A number of HDAs are addressed within the body of individual structural design calculations of general topics (e.g., dead and live load calculation). Since the population of such a HDA cannot be readily identified without scanning a large number of calculations, they have been labeled as type 2. They will be addressed as checklist attributes and trocked down following the procedure described in C/S discipline instruction DAP-DI-C/5-002.

HOMOGENEOUS DESIGN Revision: 1 ACTIVITY VALIDATION HDAs of type I have specific calculatiorn associated with them and their population con be readily identified. Their homo-geneity will be confirmed in accordance with DAP-21.

Finally, some HDAs 'cre covered under both categories (e.g.,

connections whose type cannot be identified until the cose is reviewed and at time supplemented by a special study). They have been labeled as type 1/2. The type I part of the population will be identified and scanned as per DAP-21 and the type 2 part of the population will be trocked as per DAP-DI-C/S-002.

Pages 2 ond 3 summarize the scanning process detailed on page

4. It should be completed as follows:

o HDA applicobility - identify the type of element (system, structure, component, etc) the HDA applies to.

o Homogeneity confirmation:

- Criteria similarity.

N Of ten, particularly for older calculations, the design criteria are not clearly or completely identified.

However, scanning of the calculation allows the reviewer to infer the applicable criterio. Advantage should be taken of this process to confirm homo-geneity. Whether observed or inferred, the criterio should be listed.

Similarity in design considerations, approach and methodology.

This similarity has to be addressed at two levels by

, the reviewer. First, are the loading considerations i and resulting design approach similar (e.g., type of loading: thermal, seismic, impact; load application:

inplane, out of plane, eccentric, etc. Second, is the design methodology similar (e.g., hard code, com-poter, workup stress, ultimate strength, etc.)?
