Dear Sir:

Docket Nos. 50-361 and 50-362 Follow-up Report, Inoperable Fire Doors - February 1987 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Units 2 and 3

Reference:

Letter, H. E. Morgan (SCE) to J. B. Martin (NRC),

dated February 12, 1987 In accordance with our referenced letter, this submittal provides the follow-up report of Technical Specification fire-rated assemblies (specifically fire doors) found inoperable during routine surveillances in February 1987.

Fire doors found inoperable during the February routine surveillances are identified in the Attachment and include: 12 latching mechanism failures, 7 closure mechanism failures. No doors were found blocked open in February.

As each of these deficiencies was identified, compensatory fire watches, pursuant to Technical Specification 3.7.9, Action Statement 'a', were established. Door mechanism failures are being corrected on an "as found" basis.
