Pumps."

This letter provides confirmation that the procedural requirements addressed l in the SCE&G letter from Mr. D. A. Nauman to Dr. J. Nelson Grace dated l February 14, 1986, are still in place and will continue to be mcintained at '

Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station. Specifically, the Auxiliary Building log monitors the Emergency feedwater Pump discharge temperature each shift that the pumps are required to be operable and on observance of increasing temperature initiates actions under the Emergency Feedwater System operating i procedure. The operating procedure provides guidance on recognition of steam '

binding and restoring the system to operable status, i

SCE&G has placed this generic letter in the required reading material for l Operations personnel and will address the generic safety issue during licensed operator and auxiliary operator Emergency Feedwater System training.

The dissemination of this information is designed to emphasize the importance of being alert for the possibility of malfunctioning check valves.

The following are items which were requested in the generic letter regarding costs.

1. Staff time to perform the requested confirmation and any needed followup actions was approximately 75 hours8.680556e-4 days <br />0.0208 hours <br />1.240079e-4 weeks <br />2.85375e-5 months <br />.
