Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 Attention: Mr. L. S. Rubenstein Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Units 1 and 2 Containment Tendon Anchorhead Report Gentlemen:

By letter of July 10, 1985, Alabama Power Company provided the NRC with the results of the inryco investigation of the Containment Tendon Anchorhead failures at the Farley Nuclear Plant. This investigation concluded that the tendon anchorheads failed as a result of hydrogen stress cracking. On August 12, 1985 voluntary LER 85-005-01 was submitted to the NRC. This LER concludod that containment structural integrity had been maintained continuo- ly for both units and that additional tests and inspections would be conducted.

Enclosed (two letters, one report) are the results of the testing /

inspection of eleven additional tendon anchorheads. These eleven anchorheads consisted of one anchorhead from each of the heat types currently in use at the Farley fuclear Plant and one heat type from the replacement group of anchorheads. Inryco has found that the strengths and hardnesses of these eleven anchorheads are acceptable. These results are being voluntarily provided for NRC information purposes.
