station is scheduled to begin the week of December 17. These tests will verify the ability of the containment building to withstand specified internal ~

pressure and is the last of five major milestones required before the plant can be licensed for operation.

In announcing plans to conduct the final pre-operational milestone

! activity at Wolf Creek, Kansas Gas and Electric Company officials indicated that fuel load is now anticipated in January.

In July,IQGEE officials reported that fuel load was anticipated before the and of 1984. Utility officials said the dange in target date was necessary to give time to couplete testing and other pre-operational activities.

The contaiturent building test is called the structural integrity test /

integrated leak rate test. Testing procedures will include pressurizing the inside of the building to about 69 pounds per aquare inch to verify that the building meets design specifications.

The contairmant building houses the reactor, the energy source for the l generating unit. .

! Construction of Wolf Creek is now more than 99 percent couplete.

Kansas Gas and Electric Coupany and Kansas City Power & Light Coupony each own 47% of Wolf Creek Generating Station and Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. cwns 6 percent.
