The enclosed report of. inspection visits to the subject facility on 1

November 21-22. December 2-3, and December 10-12, 1968, is forwarded

(

for information.and for possible action.

The report provides follow-up information concerning the resolution of

't specific deficiencies detected by Compliance during special audits of._

L selected mechanical and electrical systems. It is our opinion that these deficiencies are being resolved in a satisfactory and timely manner.

The results of Compliance's second electrical audit indicate that GE's

]

inspections in the area of elect,rical separations were effective. Our j ' :

concerns in this area are being resolved satisfactorily.

i Contrary to information contained in the FDSAR and Amendment 15 to t'he

'h FDSAR, Compliance determined that the containment spray system is not

i equipped with check isolation valves within the drywell. This matter is yi1 being reviewed by Jersey Central and General Electric.

In addition, we wish to note that no nondestructive examinationa, other than' visual in-spections, were performed on containment sprny piping welds downstream

)

of the suction valves for the containment spray pumps. -We understand-that visual inspection of these welds was acceptable to DRL for this fa-Ij cility; however, you may wish to review this matter in view of the absence of check valves within the drywell.

As you know, cracks were visually detected on one of the core spray isolation valves by Compliance. The defects were considered to be suffi-r ciently serious by GE that the valve is being replaced. Subsequent in-vestigations by GE of other critical valves have disclosed three other i
