w The attached report by our field inspector of visits to the
'C '
subject facility on February 5, 20 and 29, 1968, March 1, 7,
8, 18, 19 and 28, 1968 is forwarded for information.
Since the last visit covered by this report, there have been l
indications that GE has initiated action which may provide the additional assurance which we have been seeking in the overall quality control area.
Recent telephone conversations with site people indicate that the records improvement program is much more extensive than that indicated in the report.
We intend to evaluate the program during an inspection plann'ed for the week of May 6, 1968.
We continue to have concern for the adequacy of the control rod drive line to containment insert welds.
These velds form part of
.c the containment boundary.
The rough appearance of many of these welds raises questions as to the adequacy of dye penetrant examina-tions which were required by the fabrication specifications.
We have not been able to review the shop fabrication records for these welds because the records were not made available at the site as r
f previously promised by GE.
A firm position as to the adequacy of these welds must await the records review.
Arrangements are being
!(
made by the inspector for an early review of the records.
I Our review of the plant operating procedures is continuing.
Several deficiencies which are noted in the report are being e
actively pursued with the licensee.
