Results of Visit A.
Installation of Reactor Vessel-The installation subcontractor'was Reliance Trucking Il of Phoenix, Arizona.
An overhead crane was installed on
.r ;
beams and columns, supported on the refueling floor.
The beams overhung the reactor building and were supported on
]-
their ends by two columns from the ground.
i Directly under the lift area is the concrete ductwork for exhaust gases to the stack.
The overhead crane was tested by pulling on this ductwork and measuring strain--
gauge readings.
The strain-gauges were reported to read 750 tons.
The reactor vessel was said to weigh 620 tons.
It was in a horizontal position on rail trucks. The bottom cover was supported by a trunnion.. It was lifted into a-vertical position by the crane while it rotated in the trunnion.
The bottom cover was removed and the ring flange on the skirt honed.
The operation started at 8:00 am and the vessel was resting on its mating flange in the dry well by 6:15 pm.
B.
Interview The inspector described to Meesrs. Reese and Hettrick the Peach Bottom fire.
Mr. Reese agreed that installation of smoke detectors might be a prudent and economic investment.
