TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY cm.rruccw nsesser 2nct 4lM Chestnut Street Tower II December 17, 1979 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20535

Dear Mr. Denton:

In the Matter of the Application of

)

Docket Nos. STN 50-553 Tennessee Valley Authority

)

50-554 To ensure full compliance with Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act, as amended, TVA by letter dated September 26, 1979, requested from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service an identification of species which are listed or proposed for listing as threatened or endangered which may occur in the vicinity of the proposed transmission line corridors for TVA's Phipps Bend Nuclear Plant (PBNP).

TVA has received from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service a letter dated November 1, 1979 (see enclosure), which states that it is their belief that no Federally listed or proposed endangered or threatened species are known to inhabit the area to be impacted by construction of the P3NP transmission line connectors. They have also expressed the opinion that TVA has satisfied the requirements of Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act, as amended.

The schedule for construction of the John Sevier - Phipps Bend lines 1, 2, 3, and 4, is the same as the schedule shown in my August 22, 1979, letter for the John Sevier - Pulpps Bend lines 1 and 2.

TVA is still in the process of reviewing the transmission line corridors for archaeological and historical considerations, and will provide documentation showing our compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act af ter this review is completed.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY L. M. Mills, Manager Nuclear Regulation and Safety Enclosure OY
