DeYoung March 31, 1983 Director Office of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION-UNIT NO. 1 DUQUESNE LIGHT COMPANY AMENDMENT OF 10CFR21 REPORT Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation (SWEC), pursuant to the provisions of 10CFR21, provided notification to NRC on December 10, 1982 by telephone and by letter dated December 10, 1982 of a " defect" concerning the Beaver Valley Power Station Unit No. 1. The subject of our notification was defective mechanical shock suppressors supplied by Pacific Scientific Company and tested by Wyle Laboratories.
Further investigation shows that the corrective action taken (para vii of our December 10, 1982 letter) was to replace the defective shock suppressors with new shock suppressors. Of the 11 mechanical shock suppressors which were in question, it is understood that four are disassembled and stored at Pacific Scientific Company. The remaining seven are held in a warehouse in Midland, PA.
