SUMMARY

The Unit operated at a nominal value of 100% output for the entire month of September 1998.

In addition to the above, the following event which also occurred during the report period is being reported as required by Technical Specification 3.1.3.2 Note (3). While in Mode 1, the Automatic Rod Position Deviation Monitor, although still functional, was not considered operable per Technical Specifications. The limiting condition for operation as specified in the Technical Specifications was met because the deviations between the indicated rod positions were verified to be within their 12 step limits by obtaining analog / digital rod positions at least once every 4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
.

SUMMARY

l The Unit began the report period shutdown in Mode 5. Following resolution of Technical Specification compliance issues, completion of modifications, repair and testing of Atwood & Morrill weighted arm check valves, and completion of repairs to the actuators for several Borg-Wamer control valves, the Unit begcn startup and entered Mode 4 at 1503 hours0.0174 days
0.418 hours
0.00249 weeks
5.718915e-4 months
on 09/22/98. Mode 3 was entered at 1448 hours0.0168 days
0.402 hours
0.00239 weeks
5.50964e-4 months
on 09/23/98. On 09/26/98, Mode 2 was entered at 0541 hours0.00626 days
0.15 hours
8.945106e-4 weeks
2.058505e-4 months
, the reactor was taken

! critical at 0902 hours0.0104 days
0.251 hours
0.00149 weeks
3.43211e-4 months
and Mode 1 was entered at 1216 hours0.0141 days
0.338 hours
0.00201 weeks
4.62688e-4 months
. While at approximately 15% reactor power, the Unit experienced a generator overexcitation and turbine trip (reactor remained critical) at 2026 hours0.0234 days
0.563 hours
0.00335 weeks
7.70893e-4 months
on 09/27/98. This was caused by a failure of a contact in the exciter circuitry. The contact was replaced then bench tested, and the Unit was subsequently synchronized to the electrical l

grid at 2328 hours0.0269 days
0.647 hours
0.00385 weeks
8.85804e-4 months
on 09/28/98. The Unit was subsequently removed from service at 1226 hours0.0142 days
0.341 hours
0.00203 weeks
4.66493e-4 months
on 09/29/98 to permit planned turbine overspeed trip testing. Following a successful turbine overspeed l trip test, the Unit was synchronized to the electrical grid at 1425 hours0.0165 days
0.396 hours
0.00236 weeks
5.422125e-4 months
on 09/29/98, and output was l increased. At 1150 hours0.0133 days
0.319 hours
0.0019 weeks
4.37575e-4 months
on 09/30/98, the power increase was halted and output was stabilized at l

approximately 48% to permit required main steam safety valve testing. Following successful main steam safety valve testing and an acceptable quadrant power tilt ratio calculation, escalation to full power was begun at 0332 hours0.00384 days
0.0922 hours
5.489418e-4 weeks
1.26326e-4 months
on 10/01/98. A nominal value of 100% output was achieved at 1 1410 hours0.0163 days
0.392 hours
0.00233 weeks
5.36505e-4 months
on 10/01/98.
