Subject:

Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 and No. 2 BV-1 Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 BV-2 Docket No. 50-412, License No. NPF-73 Follow-up Response to Potential 10 CFR 21 Condition, Limitorque Corpcration Relianc.e 3-Phase Actuator Motors Ref: 60 Day Interim Report to NRC Dated July 23, 1993 Limitorque Corporation had notified the NRC of a p7tential 10 CFR 21 condition concerning decreases in valve actuator motor starting torques resulting from increasing motor temperature.

Because the evaluation could not be completed within the allowable time frame, a 60 day interim report was submitted, as required by 10 CFR 21. 21 '2 ) (2 ) , on July 23, 1993.

Duquesne Light Company has completed the evaluation relative to the potential 10 CFR 21 concern for all valves associated with .

Generic Letter 89-10 at Beaver Valley Unit 1 and Unit 2. Each valve was evaluated for reduced output torque due to heat effects during mispositioning and subsequent recovery to its correct position. The resulting temperature rise was then added to the accident assumptions based on the valve location. The results of the evaluation concluded that each valve is capable of performing its intended safety-related function.

Should you have any questions associated with this subject, please call J. V. Vassello, Director, Licensing, at (412) 393-5203.

Sincerely, W J.
