Dear Mr. Denton:

Enclosed is clarification for Attachment 5 which was transmitted by my letter of July 15, 1986.

l Attachment 5 to the July 15, 1986 letter transmitted the report " Safety Evaluation for Operation of Catawba Units 1 and 2 With a Positive Moderator Coefficient".

-Upon further review of this report several errors were identified. We enclose herewith the corrected report (Revision 1).

. The changes contained in the Revision I report are noted by a bar in the right l margin and are summarized as follows:

Section 2.III.H Rupture of a Main Feedwater Pipe - Method of Analysis: The second sentence referencing 1971 decay heat was removed since the 1971 decay heat model was used in the previous analysis.

Section 2.III.I Control Rod Ejection - Results and

Conclusions:

The peak clad average temperature should be 2696, not 2683 degrees F as previously reported.

Section 2.III.J Accidental Depressurization of the Reactor Coolant System - Results and

Conclusions:

The reactor trip should be low pressurizer pressure, not over temperature delta-T as previously reported.

Section 3

Conclusions:

The first sentence should state Catawba, not McGuire as previously reported.

This request is a supplement to the June 6, 1986 and July 15, 1986 reload submittals for Catawba Unit 1; therefore no additional fees have been remitted with this submittal.
