MONTHLY NARRATIVE REPORT OF OPERATION AND MAJOR MAINTENANCE EXPERIENCE This report describes the operating and major maintenance experience for the month of February,1987. This narrative report was prepared by the plant staff and is submitted in accordance with Section 6.9.1.7 of the Units 1 and 2 Technical Specifications.
On February 1,1987 Unit 1 started the month at 100X.
Unit 2 started the month at 100%.
On February 15, 1987 Unit 2 reduced power to 80% due to hydrogen leaking into the generator stator cooling water system.
On February 16, 1987 Unit 2 returned to full power after investigating the hydrogen leak into the generator stator cooling water system.
On February 17, 1987 Unit 2 was removed from the PGandE system and entered Mode 2 to repair a hydrogen leak in the generator stator cooling system.
On February 22, 1987 Unit I declared an unusual event when the Solid State Protection System (SSPS) Train B was declared inoperable. Unit 1 connenced a power decrease in preparation for unit shutdown. The SSPS train B was repaired and declared operable, the shut down was terminated, and the unit was stabilized at 30%
reactor power. At 30% reactor power Unit 1 experienced a turbine trip and subsequent reactor trip due to a High-High Steam Generator Level signal from 1-4 Steam Generator.
Unit 2 was returned to Mode 1 and synchronized to the PGandE system. Unit 2 commenced a power increase to 100%.
On February 23, 1987 Unit 1 entered Mode 1, synchronized to the PGandE system and returned to 73% power. Power was curtailed at 73% due to problems with the Heater #2 Drip Pump seals. Followihg pump repairs Unit I was returned to full power. Unit 2 returned to full power.
On February 25, 1987 Unit 2 reduced power to 50% to search for leaking undenser tubes. Unit 2 was then returned to full power after plugging leaking condenser tubes.

On February 26, 1987 Unit 2 reduced power to 50% to search for leaking condenser tubes.
On February 27, 1987 Unit 2 returned to full power after plugging leaking condenser tubes.
On February 28, 1987 Unit 1 ended the month with power at 100%.
Unit 2 ended the month with power at 100%.
Unit 1 operated this month with a unit availability factor of 93.1% and a unit capacity factor of 91.0%. Unit I shutdown one time this month due to a reactor trip.
Unit 2 operated this month with a unit availability factor of 84.4% and a unit capacity factor of 78.8%. Unit 2 shutdown one time this month to repair a hydrogen leak into the generator stator cooling water system.
Unit 2 reduced power three times this month, once for a hydrogen leak into the generator stator cooling water system and two times to search for and plug leaking condenser tubes.
No challenges to the steam generator safety valves or pressurizer power operated relief valves were made.
Significant safety related maintenance consisted of repairs to the Solid State Protection System and to the Plant Vent Gaseous and Particulate Radiation Monitors.
