MONTHLY NARRATfVE REPORT 0F OPERATION

. AND MAJOR MAINTENANCE EXPERIENCE This report describes the operating and major maintenance experience for the month of September,1985. This narrative report was prepared by the plant staff and is submitted in accordance with Section 6.9.1.7 of the Units 1 and 2 Technical Specifications.

On September 6,1985 Unit I reduced power to 35% to repair a condenser tube leak.

On September 13, 1985 Unit 2 experienced a spurious containment ventilation isolation.

On September 19, 1985 An Unusual Event was declared due to a Tsunami Warning.

Unit 1 operated this month with a unit availability factor of 100% and a unit capacity factor 97.4%. Unit 2 was in cold shutdown for the entire month due to a motor failure on Reactor Coolant Pump 2-4 on August 31, 1985.

There were no major safety related maintenance activities performed for Unit I this month. For Unit 2, the stator for Reactor Coolant Pump 2-4 was rewound and vacuum pressure impregnated (VPI). In addition, to reduce the probability of a similar failure, the stators for for Reactor Coolant Pumps 2-1 and 2-2 were vacuum pressure impregnated. Reactor Coolant Pump 2-3 had previously been rewound and vacuum pressure impregnated after a failure while it was installed in Unit 1. All three motors have been reinstalled and will be operable early in October.

No challenges to the PORVs or Steam Generator Safety Valves have been made.

No changes have been made in the Environmental Radiological Monitoring procedure, the Offsite Dose Calculation procedure, or in any radioactive waste treatment system.
