l MONTHLY NARRATIVE REPORT OF OPERATION AND MAJOR MAINTENANCE EXPERIENCE This report describes the operating and major maintenance experience for the month oi' August, 1987. This narrative report was prepared by the plant staff and is submitted in accordance with Section 6.9.1.7 of the Units 1 and 2 Technical Specifications.

Narrative of Daily Significant Plant Events On August 1, 1987 Unit 1 started the month at 100% power. Unit 2 started the month at 100% power.

j Unit I decreased power to 53% to search for leaking i condenser tubes. Unit 1 then increased power to 100% .

due to system load requirements. i At 0400 PDT, both trains of the auxiliary building ventilation system were unavailable to start on an 4 auto-start signal resulting in violation of Technical f Specification (TS) 3.7.6.1 and entry into.TS 3.0.3. At 1 0412 PDT, TS 3.0.3 was exited with one train fully operable when the exhaust fan E-1 control switch was 1 taken to the AUTO position, which restored.the auto start feature.

On August 2, 1987 Unit I decreased power to 46% power to search for leaking condenser tubes. Unit i returned to full power after plugging leaking condenser tubes.

On August 5, 1987 Unit 1 decreased power to 50% to search for leaking condenser tubes.

On August 6, 1987 Unit I returned to full power after plugging leaking I condenser tubes.

On August 8, 1987 Unit 1 decreased power to 49% to perform a demusseling operation. Unit 1 increased power to 75% after performing the demusseling operation.

On August 9, 1987 Unit I returned to full power. Unit 2 reduced power to 72% due to high temperature on number 2 heater drain pump.

On August 10, 1987 Unit 2 increased power to 93% after repairing 2-2 heater drip pump bearings and then returned to full power.

On August 11, 1987 Unit 1 decreased power to 45% to clean condenser waterboxes.

-l On August 12, 1987 Unit i returned to full power after cleaning condenser water boxes.

On August 14, 1987 Unit 1 decreased power to 65% to perform demusseling.

A 10CFR50.72(b)(2)(ii) Non-Emergency (4 hour4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
) Report was made regarding a Unit 2 diesel generator auto-start. The diesel generator started and loaded ,

onto the 4 kV bus H because of a non-valid sensed '

undervoltage condition caused by a short circuit in a 4 kV breaker. The diesel was returned to standby condition and the short curcuit was repaired.

1 I

On August 16, 1987 Unit i returned to full power after performing '

demusseling. 1 On August 17, 1987 Unit 2 decreased power to 52% to perform maintenance on main feedpump 2-1.

On August 18, 1987 At 1320 PDT, both trains of the auxiliary building ventilation system were inoperable resulting in a violation of Technical Specification (TS) 3.7.6.1 and entry into TS 3.0.3. At 1355 PDT, TS 3.0.3 was exited when both trains of auxiliary building ventilation were restarted.

Unit 2 was returned to full power after mainfeed pump maintenance was completed.

On August 24, 1987 A 10CFR50.72(b)(2)(ii) Non-Emergency (4 hour4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
) Report was made regarding an automatic initiation of containment ventilation isolation system (CVIS).

On August 25, 1987 A 10CFR50.72(b)(2)(ii) Non-Emergency (4 hour4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
) Report was made regarding a Unit i diesel generator auto-start. The diesel started and loaded onto the 4 ,

kV bus F due to improper reracking of a breaker. 1 Unit 2 reduced power to 50% to perform maintenance on 2-2 main feedwater pump and number 2 feedwater heater drip pump.

On August 26, 1987 Unit 2 returned to full power after completing maintenance on 2-2 main feedwater pump and number 2 feedwater heater drip pump.

On August 31, 1987 Unit i ended the month at 100% power. Unit 2 ended the month at 100% power.
