' MONTHLY NARRATIVE REPORT

. OF OPERATION AND MAJOR MAINTENANCE EXPERIENCE This report describes the operating and major maintenance experience for the '*

month of January,1986. This narrative report was prepared by the plant staff and is submitted in accordance with Section 6.9.1.7 of the Units 1 and 2 Technical Specifications.

On January 1, 1986 Unit 2 was paralleled to the grid.

On January 2, 1986 Unit 2 tripped during load rejection test. All four Reactor Coolant Pumps tripped.

On January 4, 1986 Unit 2 was paralleled to the grid.

On January 7, 1986 Unit I reduced power to 50% to plug leaking main condenser tubes.

On January 7, 1986 Unit 2 reduced power to 35% to plug leaking main condenser tubes.

On January 8, 1986 Unit 1 returned to 100% power.

On Januery 8, 1986 Unit 2 reduced power and separated from the grid to facilitate repairs to phase B bank transformer.

On January 9, 1986 Unit 2 was paralleled to the grid.

On January 13, 1986 Unit 2 tripped as part of startup test. Unit 2 strainer outage started.

On January 14, 1986 Unit I reduced power to 13% for repairs to HP turbine.

On January 15, 1986 Unit I returned to 100% power.

On January 23, 1986 Unit I reduced power to 58% to plug leaking tubes in main condenser.

On January 24, 1986 Unit I returned to 100% power.

On January 26, 1986 An earthquake was detected by plant seismic instrumentation and was also felt by control room personnel. The maximum ground acceleration at the plant, as determined by Terra Technology seismic monitoring instrumentation system, was 0.0039 .

Unit 1 operated this month with a unit availability factor of 100% and a unit capacity factor of 95.2%. Unit I had to reduce power three times, twice to plug leaking main condenser tubes and once to repair steam leaks on instrument lines for the Ho turbine.

Unit 2 had to reduce power once to plug leaking main condenser tubes. Unit 2 continued startup tests and maintenance prior to commencing the strainer outage on January 13, 1986.

No challenges to the steam generator safety valves have been made.

The Unit 2 pressurizer power operated relief valves cycled during the transient following the automatic reactor and turbine trips during the Full Load Rejection Startup Test on January 2, 1986.
